Dad,
As I write this
letter I can’t help but be thankful for having a Father like you. Life is
not easy and Lord knows I have had some difficult times in my life, most of
which were my own doing, but as I look back I realize just how much you have
guided me. Even when you’re not around me I find that your example is still
helping me make decisions for life. I have come across so many people who
have had no Father or had a terrible Father and I see the mess that they
have experienced and it makes me grateful for the person you are and the
life you have lived before me. I have learned more from you than I could
ever say but here are a few of the big lessons I have gleaned from your
example:
You have taught me how to be a husband; how to love one woman through the
good and bad times; to be faithful and strong for her, putting her interest
over my own.
You have taught me how to love and nurture my children. You had rules to
follow but you never provoked me to anger. You did your best to provide a
safe and loving environment for me to flourish in.
You taught me how to be a man of God. I know it was a risk to move to Texas,
but you obeyed God. I know it was a risk to leave a good paying job to
Pastor a church but you made the sacrifice and obeyed God. You have always
pursued God’s calling on your life and I strive to do the same. Your prayers
and support have sustained me and your faith in my ministry gave me the
courage to step out on my own.
When I look at you I see a lot of things; Husband, Father, Pastor, Singer,
Friend, but what I see most is Jesus. You have been a true reflection of the
Savior. I know what my heavenly Father is like because of the Father He gave
me on Earth. I truly love and admire you, and when I am gone I hope to be
remembered as the guy who turned out like his Dad.
Happy Father’s Day,
Mylon
